Handcrafted Stainless Steel with Rhodium Plating inlaid with Fordite. Fordite is a man-made material that's made from automotive paint that has been polished. It is known as Motor City (Detroit) agate. Fordite is created when excess paint builds up on surfaces in car factory painting bays over time, such as on tracks and skids where cars are painted with acrylic lacquer. Fordite dates back to the 1920's when auto manufacturers began spraying car bodies with enamel paint. The techniques used to create fordite were phased out in the 1980's, which makes this beautiful agate so rare.
